Phoebe Products strives to be leaders in the industry when it comes to food safety for your products. We have never been a part of any of the pet food recalls which have plagued the pet food industry over the last couple of years. Recently we have become certified by the third party auditor NSF and have created a HACCP plan for the entire plant. The HACCP plan is designed to make sure quality measures are being performed consistently so only high quality treats leave our plant. When creating the HACCP plan, we looked at areas in the plant that were possible critical control points. Once critical control points were determined, we came up with steps to decrease or eliminate the risks associated with each. For example, to ensure our treats are free from salmonella and other harmful pathogens we test our treats to make sure the core temperature is at least 170 degrees Fahrenheit, the temperature at which pathogens are instantly killed.
Unannounced inspections are also an annual occurrence from both the FDA and USDA where they check multiple areas of the plant for salmonella and other pathogens.
